Many evidences prove this product have existed in the area of S. Gimignano
since the 13th century.
Saffron has been almost exclusively used in dyes, but also in medicine
and in cuisine.
Saffron, as you can see from its warm red-orange colour, contains many
carotenoids: pigments which have effective
anti-oxidation properties.
Saffron contains also vitamins B1 and B2
which make it an excellent digestive by favouring
the fat metabolization.
S. Gimignano's saffron is packed in threads (the whole stigmas) to guarantee
its purity. It belongs only to "category 1" as established by
the EU product specification.
